How do we deal with the loneliness we might feel reentering the world after covid shutdowns? It may seem strange to talk about loneliness after covid shutdowns when we are now surrounded by more and more people on a daily basis. Throughout my life, I’ve had the feeling of loneliness in a crowded room come up again & again - even as a mom of 6 children & as a woman whose family all lives within 15 minutes of her & celebrates big family occasions often. Today on the blog & podcast, I’m going to dive deeper into this topic of experiencing loneliness & how to connect with people in a post covid world.
How to Connect with People in a Post Covid World
I’m sharing 3 tips to deal with feelings of loneliness & how to be present with that feeling in order to better connect with other people - and yourself.
#1 Name the Feeling & Write It Down
Take the time to be present and acknowledge the feeling of loneliness. It’s okay to feel discomfort, but allow yourself to sit in these uncomfortable emotions and process and learn from them. If we ignore these feelings, or worse blame ourselves for feeling them in the first place, we lose a great opportunity to grow in our emotional intelligence & become a greater version of ourselves.
#2 Nature Bathing
Don’t underestimate the importance of being in nature & connecting with nature through the practice of forest bathing - which is simply walking in nature & being surrounded by trees and wilderness. Whether it’s a hike in your neighborhood or even just a walk during your lunch hour, many studies have shown the stress-relieving and mood-boosting effects that being in nature can have upon the human body & mind.
#3 Engage in Altruistic Activities
Find an area of your life where you can give back & find that altruistic creative flow within you. Turning your focus towards the areas that bring you joy & being able to give back to those in need allows you to combat feelings of loneliness while connecting with others through the gift of service.
