How do you create the space & awareness to do all of the things that bring you joy? They say that the organ that uses the most energy is your brain. We are constantly making decisions all day long & we can utilize this decision-making power to bring about more joy in our everyday lives. Journaling is one of the most effective ways to recognize the habits that are negatively affecting your life so that you can use the process of crowding out to replace them with more positive habits that bring you joy. In today’s blog & podcast episode, I’m sharing 2 ways to use bullet journaling to create healthier habits this year!
2 Ways to Use Bullet Journaling to Create Healthier Habits
#1 Shift Your Focus to the Good Habits
Some of the most common New Year’s resolutions involve eating more nutritious foods and less junk food. Crowd out the unhealthy foods by shifting your focus to eating more healthful foods. Instead of fixating your energy on trying not to eat a certain type of food, focus your energy on consuming MORE of a healthier type of food.
For Example:
Simply focus on eating more vegetables. Pick 1 or 2 different vegetables to add to each grocery run & go at your own pace until it becomes a regular habit. When you focus on eating more nutritious foods, you’ll naturally have less need for junk foods.
#2 Write Things Down to Bring Awareness to the Habits that Bring You Joy (& Those That Don’t)
Journal each day about the people, places, and things that bring you joy & the things that zap or drain your energy. Make note of the habits, people, and places that hinder your focus and attention, and your ability to be present with an open mind and open heart. Then SHIFT your mindset from focusing on trying to eliminate the things that drain you and instead find something POSITIVE that you can add to your regular routine that will crowd out those things that drain you.
For Example:
When I started journaling each night, this good habit crowded out the bad habit of scrolling on social media each night before bed because I simply didn’t have enough time to do both.
