3 Steps to Overcome Fear by Becoming Aware of Your Thoughts & Emotions
STEP #1 Name the Fear + Write It Down
Fear can come out in various forms, and often times we don’t fully realize that it’s a fear that is causing us to feel certain unpleasant emotions in our everyday lives. Our thoughts create our emotions, whether we’re conscious of this process or not. While I’ve always had a journal, I didn’t realize the immense power of writing out my emotions in a brain dump whenever I was experiencing a whole lot of emotions did to provide a place for me to become more aware of these emotions. Writing out your emotions brings awareness to the thoughts you’re having that may be causing those feeling of doubt & fear. This practice of journaling your thoughts will allow you to not only bring awareness to your thoughts & emotions, but by acknowledging the existence of the fears, you will then be able to more clearly set your intentions as a busy working mom and work through those unpleasant emotions to keep moving forward in confidence and joy.
STEP #2 Ask Yourself: What’s the worst thing that could happen?
After you’ve acknowledged the fear and written it down, ask yourself “What’s the worst that could happen?” Feel the fear and ask yourself this questions to get a clearer understanding of what the fear really is and what that worst case scenario would look like. Unless you actually ask this question & confront the worst case scenario, you’ll never get a full understanding of the situation and what may be causing the fear in the first place. This process allows you to then have more control over your reaction to whatever happens next & know that you indeed can make it through even that worst case scenario.
STEP #3 Just Do It!
Now that you’ve gained clarity of the thoughts and emotions driving your fear, it’s time to prepare yourself for the worst case scenario & then just move forward! Be in the moment and feel the fear but don’t let it stop you from taking action. Have confidence in your ability to move forward even as you’re feeling the fear & know you’re planting the seeds for something beautiful to happen next. Send the email, make the call, do the thing, and keep moving forward to gain even more clarity & work through the fear of grief or rejection that tries to hold you back. The fear you feel right before doing the thing that scares you may never fully go away, and that’s ok. After you hit “send” or do the thing you were afraid to do, you’ll feel an immediate sense of relief and rush of energy because you didn’t let that fear stop you! Be proud of yourself & keep moving forward…
