How do we embrace the discomfort in our lives? This blog post & podcast episode is really a part 2 from last month’s post: 6 Steps To Embrace An Anti-Fragile Mindset. I love getting book recommendations myself as there are so many options out there it can be hard to know which ones to choose. In today’s blog and podcast, I’m sharing some of my favorite books I’ve recently read on how to embrace the discomfort in your life. These books have allowed me to feel like I’m not alone in this current season of discomfort & fueled me to look for & embrace the opportunities for growth and change during this challenging season.
How to Embrace the Discomfort in Your Life
Book #1: The Obstacle Is the Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials into Triumph by Ryan Holiday
This book talks about how rather than seeing failure and mistakes as roadblocks, we can choose to see them in a light of success because we can learn from them. Our perception and attitude towards obstacles are within our control & we get to determine how those are overcome. By emphsizing self control & having rational acceptance of what is outside your control, we are fueled to find success on our own path.
Book #2: Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent and Lead by Brene Brown
This book teaches about the power of getting comfortable with vulnerability as it can lead to both creativity and personal growth. It explores how shame can hold us back and how to recognize and overcome this powerful force to unleash our inner power. We learn about how having courage as the willingness to show up and be seen (rather than courage being the absence of fear) allows other people to feel okay in their own journey as we eliminate our own shame and share with vulnerability.
Book #3: Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck
This was a foundational book for me as I began Integrated BEing years ago & explores the concepts of a fixed mindset versus a growth mindset. We learn how embracing discomfort and failure can help us achieve our goals when we embrace the power of a growth mindset. This book also expires the idea that intelligence is something we can grow in (rather than something we are simply born with) as we choose to embrace developing our skills with practice and persistence.
