Try to gain insight on what triggers you to react rather than respond thoughtfully
What makes me run? First, recognize this: There is no simple solution or secret to creating an easy life for yourself. We are all going to face challenges and find ourselves feeling overwhelmed and unfocused. If we keep searching for ways to make life easier, we’ll be disappointed. Instead, we need to create moments of joy each day. But how?
The key is to constantly ask yourself questions to find out what makes you tick, what your daily pain points are, and most importantly, where you find your joy. Once you find your joy - what drives you - you can structure your days around it. Then, delegate, deal with, or let go of the rest.
How I Make It All Work as a Working Mom:
This is how I make it work. I prefer the “make it work” mindset rather than thinking about how I “do it all.” The truth is some days, you won’t feel like you’re achieving everything but rather scraping by. That’s OK – you’re still making it work. I’m still often asking how I manage to do it all. Start by approaching your life one day at a time. When you’re feeling overwhelmed, ask yourself what you can and cannot control.
“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.”
Being flexible opens doors and lets you roll with the punches, making the good times feel even richer and letting the bad times roll off more easily. Be able to laugh at yourself, be present, find magic in the mundane and recognize that finding the perfect balance amongst it all – work, marriage, parenting – is impossible. The best you can do is find the right state of harmony for you.
7 Secrets to Finding Joy As a Working Mom
There are a few secrets to being a working mother that I’ve learned over the years. When you need a reminder, call these back:
It’s just hard. There’s no way around that.
Compartmentalizing is key. We need mental clarity in order to contain and manage everything life throws at us.
Don’t be a martyr. Remember to prioritize.
Find your support network.
Know your limits. You can’t be present for your kids if you tap out your energy elsewhere, for instance.
There is no such thing as balance. Again, it’s about a state of harmony.
Enjoy every moment. You’ll miss it when the chaos passes.
Having a constant internal dialogue with yourself about what’s going on in your life, continuing to check in and ask yourself important questions. This helps me from getting overwhelmed by centering my thoughts. Dig deep. Ask yourself things like:
What’s on my mind today?
Is there anything I am feeling that is weighing me down?
What’s something I feel hopeful about?
What’s been requiring a lot of time, attention, and energy lately?
What do I want or need to have more time for?
Is there something I need to do that I’ve been avoiding? If so, why do I think I have been avoiding it?
Is there someone in my life that has made me feel seen, heard, and known lately?
What’s one thing I need that I can give myself today?
This will help you remember to focus on yourself and most importantly, find your joy. I recently spoke with Suzy Goodwin, the host of the Run Lift Mom podcast about all of this & more. Be sure to listen when the episode goes live on Tuesday July 7, 2020.

Is Life Coaching Right for You?
Lastly remember, the approach to health is holistic. Every aspect of one’s life must be considered in order to thrive. A person’s health, nutrition, movement, environment, relationships, emotional health, and personal development are all connected and influence one another, which is why they need to be harmonized. We can all thrive when we understand and appreciate the interconnection between our lives and our bodies. It often only takes a small change to have a huge impact on our well-being.
